Is it just me, or does this command simply not work?

Only if you have chatwide powers such as Global Mod or Admin. And the correct form is /ban * user Not all that fancy crap around it. If you create a room, you can only use /ban user.

Yeah, and it doesn't work. I could kick, I could promote, I could do anything else within my power as a room moderator. However, when I attempted to /ban, I kept getting a prompt that it was an invalid command.

He's correct, Ive had similiar issues with numerous rooms, so have others ive promoted to that status in my own created rooms, though I assumed it was the fault of my own net. A fix to this or at the least a theory as to why would be appreciated, yup yup.

Maybe it's because a ban is sitewide, and can't be made to be for a single, usercreated room?

Bans do work. But maybe I'm seeing the wrong picture here. Do you get a "You must be a moderator of this room to use this command?" or a like message? Even when you are a mod? If so, then your mod field is filled up with rooms and cannot make anymore new ones. There are 2 fixes to this. Dirty and Cheap fix: Log out, delete your username, remake it right away. Little longer fix: Find a global mod and have them do a /demote * username or go into the panel and clear your room permissions field. Any of these will restore your modship, till the field fills up again. Hint: user smaller room names and don't add extras (ie: Thisismyhouse(night/evening/ask) will fill it pretty fast.)

Negative. I get the following prompt; I normally wouldn't complain about this. But last night we had an issue with numerous players in my room who just had to be gotten rid of. It was getting out of hand. So I kicked them. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. They returned, so I kicked again. So on and so forth. All the while insults were flying and rules were being broken about harassment. People came in during the whole thing thinking it was the po-po abusing power, which got irritating. It murdered the RP which was just barely salvaged by some of our more dedicated role-players. And you know, it would have just been easier if I could have banned em'. The suggestion to /ignore them came up, but it would not have been an ideal solution because they were repeatedly changing names, and I would have had to inform everyone who entered exactly who they should ignore, they would have asked for an explanation, and hardly any RP would have gotten done.

Semi-intelligent trolls, who would have guessed this might happen? :O!

Yeah, it's frustrating as hell.
Every so often the ban table clears or some such thing, SixString explained it to me once, and I need to ask a mod to /ban someone from my room. It's a real bother as this one particular person keeps mucking up my RPs.
And I, too, keep getting the missing parameters mess.

Not even that Auvic. Trolls don't strike at the same room day after day, week after week and so on, these are the same people over n over again and they do not troll any other room. The harassment issue was dealt with by SaintJ on the night this happened, but yes a /ban would be wonderful. Ive had to do it in the past to, the whole /kick (Repeat 40 times) before they get bored enough to go bug someone else.

If you typed in /ban - {user} that won't work. The commands were altered when Gmods were added. But that was an admin only function even in the old keep. The only ban commands that can be used by room moderators is /ban username No fancy things around it.
If you want to test it out. Login to the keep, make a room like asdf. You should be mod. Then login another name to the same room. Attempt to ban that name. It'll only ban you from that room using the command /ban username and for 10 days. It won't ban you from the chat. IF you try this, do not make a room you would normally make. Otherwise you'll be locked out for 10 days.

We know there can't be fancy things around it,Dave. What were saying is even that does not work, just the normal /ban username . It just does not work and I really dislike going to a global mod, having to screen shot something, hosting it, then saying to a mod "This person is being just dumb" and have to go through that song and dance. All for something that used to be fixable by the creator of a user made room, /ban user just does not work, simple as that. At least for some of us anyway, I can't say for all of TK.

I actually did that. Made some random room, logged in with another name, and banned the first. No problems with the /ban working for me. Huh.

Last night I was running my room with a few others and this one kid who had been banned from the room three times now entered and began causing problems, so I kicked him, and he continued to enter over and over again forcing myself and the other room mod (Joe) to kick him. Finally we got sick of it and made a private room because /ban username doesn't work.
I don't personally think a /ignore was suitable, as if I ignore him, how do i know when to kick him? And if I'm looking for people to come into the room and RP then making a private one defeats that purpose.
I had to log into Iron City last night, ask Web to help me out just to be rid of the kid. Who knows how long it'll last this time before I have to repeat the process again... and again...

The fact that it works for some of you but not all of you might mean it's something on your pc. Or, with your machine I should say. I have a similar problem in CC right now. Most folks can view profiles, but some get errors.
So tell me this much, those of you that have problems, are you using Firefox or IE7?

Well, the coder checked the ban function on CC and found no errors. Both the functions were recoded at the same time, so unless Webby changed something or adding something that would effect it.. But I doubt that. Since it works for some. I'm thinking that something in the newest version of the browsers is causing problems.
