Psh, forcing things never works, ever. Sometimes the idea runs off in funny directions, though.

Yeah, there'll be some setup for custom spells. Hell, that'll be the entire magic system, really, with some example spells thrown in.

Aw. Not as enthusiastic? Damn. But yeah, that game was one of my two favorite games ever for GameBoy.

Yeah, but ah well. I was getting big for it even when I was nine.

But you said... natural conversation doesn't...

I love you.

What was the other?

Oh. Oh well then. One of us should google them.

Doesn't what?

... I take it you like that idea.

Dragon Warrior Monsters II.

The futons? Nah, I'm going to deal with the one I've got for a while.

Matter.

Yeah.

2? Really? Tara's Journey/Coby's ...no wait that's backwards. Well whatever. Wait, unless you're talking about like classic II on GBC. Assuming they made that.

You'll come back, just watch!

Oh, right. Well, to me, conversation is simply a way to convey ideas, and so the division between forced and natural becomes a matter of ease of catching attention.

Well, once I'm finished designing the setup for everything up to the magic system, I might show you what I've got and see if you have any ideas on how to make the magic system work.

Classic on GBA. I think it was III, actually, but... I could be wrong. Main character was Toby, sister was Milayou.

Psh, I don't plan on buying anything very expensive for the next two years. If I do buy a new bed, it'll be because bad shit's gone down. = /

That sounds like an accurate way to view it. Hadn't connected those ideas before.

That'd be cool. I'm big on systems, so hopefully I can contribute something useful.

Don't recognize any of that. Didn't even know they made GBA dragon warrior games, might have to check them out.

Oh yeah, saving up. Hurk.

I think in strange ways. = P

Hahah, yeah. I'll probably aim to have, like, a few basic spells (defensive, offensive, and maybe healing) and work out how they'd interact with the different types of magic and how they'd be modified by more ranks in the skill (along with costing more) as a base for people to look at, or just modify as appropriate and use, but there'll hopefully be a fairly flexible magic system. Speaking of which, shit's resolved, so I can go back to working on the rest of the system.

Wait, not GBA, GBC. Dunno where the A came from.

Yeah, saving up.

You both think in strange ways.

I don't know D&D. At all.

The best Gameboy game is tetris.

I have no money in my savings account.

Thanks.

This'll be better than DnD anyway. =v

Truth.

Sadness.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Useful though.

Yeah. With a basic template you should be able to give people a guide so that they can rough out new stuff. Some way to reliably estimate the cost and difficulty based on those things, etcetera.
And yeah? Everything turn out okay?

Hm. In III for GBC you're the son of Ortega and have to go kill Baramos, the pteradactyl dragon thing. It sounds like II, but never played it to know. Did you capture/use monsters for your team?

Two years, so you're like moving there then if everything goes well?

Damn right we do.

Like Bane said - I hope it'll be better. It'll be pretty much entirely opposed d20 rolls, rather than static stats, and have smaller numbers overall.

I liked Pokemon, actually. And Magi-Nation. ... I gotta get those emulators again.

Awgh. Me either. Don't even have a savings account.
---------------------------------------------------
Damn right it's useful. They expect a zig, I don't zag. Expect a zag, don't zig. Look to the left and miss what's coming down the center. Or something.

Exactly. And give them ways to just pick it up and run with it. Probably going to make a total of, like... lessee. One single-target, one multi-target, one area-effect sphere-style, one bolt-line-style... Four basic Attack Spell types, three or four Defensive and Buffing types, and three Healing types. And yeah. Everything turned out well. X-D

... ? I just remember that the kid's name was Toby and his sister was Milayou. You captured monsters, yeah - it was pretty much like Cobi/Tara's Journey, but with fewer monsters and a somewhat different story.

Yeah. Saving starting now, so that I can pitch in on shit immediately instead of draining money and resources while frantically trying to get a job. Actually, if this system takes off, might move sooner - just waiting until I'm done with college, and if the system's successful enough, I can make it my job, and as long as I live carefully, I have confidence in that I can live off what I make.

Sounds jibberishy enough.

Sounds good.

Oh, hurk. No clue.

Wait, system? Y'mean marketing the RP system? That'd be sweet.

Hell yeah it does. > D

Won't be too difficult, either. I'll probably base it on the system for the rest of the combat skills, effect-wise. See, I think at, like, every third time they increase their skills to a certain point, they'll get an opportunity to choose an extra ability they get when using that weapon - like an extra attack (rather than just getting one per round/phase), or a bonus to defense, or a bonus to hitting things fuck-off hard.

Aaaah, damn. I'll look it up, and see if I can find it.

Hell yeah, marketing it. I'm not a charitable enough motherfucker to compile four books (and they won't be thin, despite the lack of classes and the small number of pregenerated spells) and then GIVE THEM AWAY. Well, I'll let the playtesters have them in .pdf form, but once playtesting is done, I'll work in suggestions and criticism and send it to a publisher. Might try with Wizards, see if I can maybe sell the system to them and work from home on making the next edition or something.

I honestly have quite a bit of difficulty figuring out a lot of your messages here. Been trying to think as to why that might be. Currently I want to say it's because our thought processes might both be altered enough from the average (and in different ways) to generate translation errors in regard to one another (but not standard stuff). My other leading theory is that I'm just stupid.

Magic has its own set of skills then, yeah? Could be some neat bonuses for it.

Don't remember there being a IV on GBC. Obsessed with III, know it's not that. Thought it was II, but it isn't. Can't be I. Stumped.

Probably just being overly paranoid here, but be careful about who you send the .pdfs to then. Four books, a lot of time, one stolen idea and then a lot of irritation. Also tempted to say patent it before sending it anywhere. Publishers/companies can, will and have stolen work in the past. = /

I actually do my best to alter my thinking as far from the norm as I can while still practicing the ability to understand others, so... it might be the first. X-D

Yeah. Well, they're alongside the Combat Skills in terms of advancement, but there'll be, like... Fire/Ice/Wind/Water-Element Magic, maybe divided further into Offensive/Defensive/Support types.

Ah! It was the FIRST one, and the guy's TERRY. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior_Monsters That game.

I think I will, then, that's a good idea. And I'll definitely try to divide it up, so that it can be a little bit more difficult to snag.

Really? I think it works.

Space? Time? Fate/luck? There are a lot of additional possibilities for pathwayssss.

Oh, huh. I should've stuck with occam's razor. Not III, not II, obviously I.

Yeah. Sort of did something like that with an invention too. Not quite file-division, but writing down a few key details on paper and apart from everything else to keep the picture incomplete to any would-be thieves.

Well, considering that part of the aim is to cause others to have difficulty understanding the way I think in order to facilitate taking them by surprise, apparently it does.

There are additional pathways, but it's a pain to work those out. The only way they'd work is if I set it up so that there was a particular spell type that basically just referenced that path of magic, and even then they'd end up as most likely being support or defensive-only schools, or I'd have to make it more and more complex. If I leave it as a basic four-path system (fire, earth, air, water), I can leave the specifics up to the Master and the player, and simply work out basics. Besides, interpreted correctly, the elements could be used to replace the more... cosmos-y path ideas you've got.

Yeah. Ah well. Somebody stole that game straight out of my GameBoy.

Mmm, yeah. I'll copyright it, get it playtested while I work on the art, get an interview with the people who I plan to get to publish it, and work out a satisfactory deal once everything's done. There'll only be one out of each group of playtesters that has all four books, anyway.

Oh. Yes. Fuck yes it does. And at this point I feel awesome for being able to cough my own understanding out of your stuff any at all.

Air for space, water for time, fire for... fate alright that one's not as accurate. But alright, I think I see where you're going with this. So same thing- "they have the template, if they want it they can work it out, but it's not being sponsored or nailed down here."

Woah, serious? Wait, when it was off right? I'm imagining some dude running by and yanking the cart right out while you're playing.

Sounds like a plan yo.

Ahahah. > D

Pretty much. I mean, things like Haste and Slow and all will be in there as buffing spells, but other than that, it'd just be awkward to try to work out without having to revamp shit and do lists and lists of spells.

Yeah, when it was off. X-D Was on the bus, GameBoy in my backpack, game in GameBoy, get home, no game in GameBoy.

Yah. Hopefully I'll be able to get a bunch of playtesters. If all else fails, I can copyright it and take it to Wizards and be like "Hey, can you guys help me finish this system, for a share of the profit?"

Hey, outta curiousity, are mine difficult at all to interpret?

Yeah, alright.

Lame.

D'you think the provided theme/setting will market well? That might be a lot of what they base an evaluation on, great system or no.

Not usually. I try to be flexible in thinking, and if I can't understand it fully I think about it for a moment.

So, yeah.

Yeah. Ah well, I can get emulators that can play it.

Well, hopefully. It'll be important for everything else, so...
