Quote from: Soja
In Ye Olde Days™, there was a board on RPGHost called Gamers; Ethics & Religion. It was a melting pot of personalities, political views, flamewars and goofing around. It was frustrating at times, and highly amusing at others.

I miss that, kind of. Hahahar.

Since political discussions are bound to come up on these forums, I wonder what the interest would be for a politics forum to discuss them. There are lots of politics boards out there already (and I'm sure the old rpghost one still exists) so the idea wouldn't be to try anything new, but rather give a decent channel for people to talk about politics here at nexxushost without flooding the regular forums.

Thoughts?

One thing I'll say for labour; & that is, that it isn't as offensive as the corresponding mutatory force which now threatens culture in America. I refer to the force of business as a dominating motive in life, & a persistent absorber of the strongest creative energies of the American people. -Lovecraft

Before voting Yes or No, please realize a few things:

1) If you don't like discussions on politics, then be aware that threads on politics are going to come up in the regular forums unless a special politics forum is created.
2) If you like discussing politics, then be aware that politics forums are almost invariably hostile and almost everyone will have a different view than you. Throw in the internet and it'll probably have a lot of arguments going on in it.
3) It'll need a moderator and I don't have time to do it. Someone else will be appointed from the list of applicants I have already and you may actually hate their guts.
4) It may actually be fun, if you like that sort of thing!

I tend to do nothing but troll politics threads, so keeping them out of my view may be the best for everybody.

For people that are too young to remember or too lazy to use google, the old forum simply moved to Critical Fumble because it was having issues with RPGHost. So if you loved that crowd and whatever, they're still trucking:

http://www.criticalfumble.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3

I get my political posting fix elsewhere when I feel the urge, so I don't care one way or the other. Web should make me moderator and I'll ban people who are retarded (Web don't make me moderator).

Maybe. Not so much now that I know GER is still out there. Perhaps there should be a Keep version of I dunno FYAD (with a lot more nerd tolerance) to get our trolling/retardedness urges out

It would be called NO JOES ALLOWED

If you're going to make a politics forum, which I'd like to see, I say make it a much more rules-heavy forum. No shitposting, no trolling, etc.

TOASTER gets my vote.

You may or may not get enough interest. I'm not entirely sure with this crowd; I like politics personally but I didn't hang out in GE&R that much.

Oh, gods!! That would be really funny...The only thing is that you will have to make a good pick on the Moderator.

More people should offer feedback. How can I decide when a full 17% of the populace support a free toaster gift?

I'm an Ombudsman. I investigate; I only very rarely legislate (and only in a committee, no man is an island and all that).

To be frank, a toaster is probably more valuable than anything you would get from an internet politics forum

Unless there actually is a level of restraint or decency hidden under the decades thick crust of internet anonymity inspired bait-and-trolling, then this forum will probably end up as a giant flame battle where 'Bring Our Troops Home' and 'Fuck your tax cuts, my country makes us pay in blood and tears' replace the usual 'your mother' and 'douchefag'.

But heavily moderated (which gets tricky when you start getting into topics people clearly have vested personal feelings in) it might be worth trying? Worst comes to worst we can tear it down, cover it up with a rug and pretend it never happened.

My current one could use replacement, come to think of it.

I voted toaster because I'm neutral. I wouldn't USE the politics forum because I generally dislike internet politics. However there's clearly a certain number of users here who like to discuss politics. I propose we have a politics sub-forum if only so I can say "Stfu and move this to the politics forum"

If enough topics of that nature are made to warrant a place for them, sure. Otherwise, nah.

Yeah, making one could encourage participation or work out anyway, but reasoning that doesn't reveal itself to me advises against it.

No one wants or needs some sort of Nexxus-specific FYAD, shut up.
