hey guys, MrCraiggy here, now, been trying to get this one off the ground, some of you might've seen me around in The Keep going by the name of ~Kou~ in a room called NuTokyo, well, I'm essentially trying to start a cyberpunk RP based around Shadowrun, preferrably 4th edition, but I don't mind at all what version you base your character around as I'm planning this to be pure RP, no dice involved at all.

So yeah, gritty, grimey cyberpunk RP set in the Shadowrun timeline so the great crash and everything, for those familiar with Shadowrun at all. But if not, no matter, you can still join in, sci-fi slummery awaits! I'll even throw in some plot hooks and actual 'Runs' (Or missions/quests for those who aren't familiar with Shadowrun) for people to sink their teeth into.#

A general idea would be a world recovering from the great crash (Big economical crisis and technology screw up) and the year is 2080, the human race survived and have now been joined by the elves who have decided to come out hiding, plus, genetic mutations within the human race have formed new races or 'metatypes' known as dwarves, orcs and trolls. The economy is run by corperations, the highest of these being known as "The Big Ten" and the number one spot is taken by a company called Saeder Krupp, owned and run by the great dragon Loftwyr, yes, that's right, a dragon...
The primary setting of this RP would be, as mentioned above, NuTokyo and essentially anything goes, guns, melee, cybernetic augmentations, magic, you name it, there's scope for it in Shadowrun, so it's very open ended and varied in nature.

So whaddya reckon? Let me know on here or via a PM, or whisper me whenever I'm online with ~Kou~

If your RP takes place just after the crash, and during the 'recovery' period, doesn't that mean there's no Matrix?

And why NuTokyo? It's such a... meh setting for Shadowrun. I mean, sure, you can milk the "Holy hell, the Japs really DO hate the awakened so much they're just short of (or might have already) put them into concentration camps" drama for all its worth for a time, but for the big-time, you gotta do Seattle.

Trying to 'sum up' Shadowrun's *universe* is pretty tough to do. Good luck with that.

...I love Shadowrun. Cheesy

All very valid points, definately worth considering, I would like to have the Matrix involved as it is a huge part of the Shadowrun game and I suppose what you say about Japan is right too, especially if we want magic users in the game... But with having it set in 2080, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay after the great crash, I just put that in there as a reference, and something like that is never truely recovered from, so the matrix is active... And I guess I could settle for seattle, but like I said, with all the wide scope that Shadowrun offers, it's not like we'd be limited to just the one city...

I guess it really boils down to how detailed you want your 'plot hooks' to be. If you want them to be intricate, detailed, and heavy on the lore, sticking to a single city is the best so you can fully concentrate on the fine workings of the city. If you are satisfied with a vaguely Shadowrun flavored, generic sci-fi RP then feel free to expand the scope. It's really hard to get down to the fine details about large areas all at once, and those fine details are more important for Shadowrun than, say, D&D or LOTR.

Well, it seems that I've sparked some interest... So how about we make a go of it? I'd like it to be as Shadowrunny as possible, and yes, I would like to stick to the one city, but that doesn't mean that it's limited to the one city, say if one of the runs involved courier work or something...

So if you'd like to make a character and maybe whisper me on the chat, we can get things off the ground and tweak it as we go eh?

And yeah, detail really does matter in Shadowrun, you are absolutely right!

I assume you'd be suggesting another city location, right?

And good use of Shadowrun slang, have a cookie...
