So, we know your favorite books/authors/bands, but of those bands, what songs do you find yourself listening to/enjoying the most, and how come?
My top three faves have to be...
Nightwish's Ghost Love Score: It has such a grand, epic sound. Even if it isn't the most musically or lyrically complex song, I find myself listening to it time after time. The way it builds up over a good 5 minutes, then levels off for a few, only to build back up towards the end. Gorgeous tune.
Dungeon's The Prophecy + A Rise To Power: The Prophecy is the orchestral lead up to A Rise To Power, which is a really amped energetic metal ballad. It's got the kind of "epic" feel to it that I adore.
Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise: I dunno, maybe it's the fact that he's got a whole violin-line in the song, maybe it's the "They say I gotta learn, but nobody's there to teach me/ if they can't understand, how can they reach me?" line. Maybe it's the total lack of "bricks in a washing machine+bitches+hos+drugs" that seem to pop up in today's "Gangsta rap."

Flesh Field - Voice of Dissent : Amazing beat, great lyrics. That rising point of no return, the final battle between the good guy and the bad guy. A duel of ideals that will not end until one comes out on top.
Enya - Adiemus : If ever one wanted to hear the voices of creation, one need only listen.
Transiberian Orchestra - Carol of the Bells : 'Always adored the original, choral version when I was a child. This version simple combined a childhood love with what I like now.
Anberlin - Godspeed : Catchy, good beat, very well written lyrics. Mildly angsty, mmm mmm, good.
Origa - My River : Powerful, hint of an underlying sadness that can't be avoided.
The Last Unicorn : It's the Last Unicorn.
Lucia Di Lammermoor - Diva's Song : Ear candy.
Phil Collins - Strangers Like Me : Playful little diddy. Reminds me when I was little and use to make a hobby of copying random people I happened to see. Oh, and first love, too. That overwelming, ridiculous happy hyper feeling that no words can ever describe.
Firefly - Firefly Theme/Can't Take the Sky : Do I have to explain.
Thrice - Stare Into the Sun : 'Cause I need my metalcore boy band.
Paul Oakenfold - Ready, Steady, GO : Fast song and catchy beat that just works so well when playing video games or writing a fast scene.
Natalie Cole - Everlasting Love : Classic, feel-good song. Probably my favorite love song.
Imogen Heap - Must Be Dreaming, Have You Got It In You, Headlock, The Walk : Genius artist.

Not usually into words beyond how they contribute to the sound. Find them hard to understand and usually it's more for feeling than thought-based expression.
Modest Mouse - Night on the Sun/Heart Cooks Brain Tie between these two. HCB has a great overall mellow sound, sort of grainy. It's focused though, not relaxed or tense. You know where you're going. NotS is more open and loose, near-infinitely deep. The guitar is great. At one point the lyrics also make me think of an underground city, and those are universally cool.
Interpol - Specialist, NARC Something like that. Can't remember what the first one even sounds like, it's been a while. Just listened to it a lot. NARC has the catchy guitar... thing.
Clint Mansell - Xibalba, Together We Will Live Forever, Lux Aeterna, Death is the Road to Awe Soft, focused, trance-like violin use in the first one. The second is a bit more open with a very easy piano melody. It's pretty sad I felt hesitant to mention the third just because so many people like it and know it the most, but no amount of shallowness could deny it's a fantastic, powerful song. The final is a journey that spans some 7-8 minutes, can be quite intense.
The Presets - I Go hard I Go Home Somewhat fast, a sort of psychedelic techno song. Then somewhere around 3 minutes in, pure stream kicks in and hopefully you're out there enough to ride it.
And then there's a lot of video game music, but fortunately the other thread took care of that.

Electronica-Dance, that is. Bahahaha.
Apoptygma Berserk - In This Together It's just such an uplifting song when you're feeling sad or down. Listening to it, you know there's someone out there to help you. And I don't care how womanish that makes me.
KMFDM - Hau Ruck One of the only songs that, on the first time I listened to it, made me headbang. It rocks exponentially hard.
Kid Beyond - Wandering Star This song's done entirely by mixing together the human voice and beatbox sounds. And, remarkably, it sounds pretty good.
Assemblage 23 - I Am The Rain Fantastic orchestral arrangements and an ominous, forewarning message - it's what I like about A23's stuff.
Infinite A song about self-realization - that we're all dust in the wind.
Madman's Dream Bouncy.
Ananda Shankar - Dancing Drums My favorite orchestral piece. Particularly since it's from India, hence, sitar action.
VNV Nation - Testament Another uplifter. Of course, after you get past the first depressing part.
Nemesis Mmm, syncopation! Loves me some syncopation.
And One - Sometimes My favorite one out of the whole set I list here. It's just so... related to me.

Busta Rhymes - Whoo-hah! (Got You All in Check): FLIPMODE IS THE SQUIDACH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YYMw1_FZL8Hawkwind - Assault and Battery & Golden Void, Hawkwind - Space is Deep, Hawkwind - Adjust Me & Children of the Sun: Because space is the place. Hawkwind is kind of like a... crunchier Pink Floyd. I guess they might be my favourite band. On the last one, Children of the Sun is the far superior track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK8-CV6IqY8, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cULwlnEok1c, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrLFZ9xbT2MUlver - Porn Piece or the Scars of Cold Kisses: Neato trip hop from a former black metal band. Porn Piece is kind of the prelude for Scars of Cold Kisses, just keep listening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uocPJ33YBk Yeah a dumb fanvid (made out of a good movie at least) but one to have playing in the background. Monster Magnet - Space Lord: Monster Magnet is kind of like Hawkwind filtered through a kind of Southern fried style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1p7yt3bRjYThese aren't really my all-time favourite songs, they're songs I'm listening to a lot these days.

Man I hate this kind of thread. Because my tastes are so ecclectic, I can never pick out a favourite song, or even favourite movie, or game or anything. D:
But I'll give it a shot... hm...
Rival Schools - Travel By Telephone... infact most of their album Celldweller - The Last Firstborn and Unlikely (Stay With Me)... amongst 90% of their first album... Mika Hatsune - Melt is a fun tune too for something hugely Japanophile. Foo Fighters - Breakout Hammerbox - Trip Hybrid - Until Tomorrow (Stefan Anion & Starfire Surviving Another Day remix) Jamiroquai - Seven Days in Sunny June Lost Prophets - Burn Burn Mindless Self Indulgence - Shut Me Up (lol) Frou Frou/Imogen Heap - I must be Dreaming Killswitch Engage - My Curse Placebo - Haemoglobin and Pure Morning Rammstein - Sonne Alice Cooper - Poison A-Ha - Take On Me (well duh) Nik Kershaw - The riddle Soundgarden - Superunknown, Rusty Cage Muse - Newborn Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Ben Folds Five - Battle of Who Could Care Less Cowboy Mouth - Joe Strummer Dangerous Mezashi Cat - Rockamn 3 Title Garbage - Cherry Lips Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Hyper - Cascade In Flames - Moonshield or Embody the Invisible... a couple other tracks too actually... James Blunt - Wisemen Hendrix - Voodoo Child José González - Heartbeats Origa/Yoko Kanno - Inner Universe (because I am a huge japanofag) MC Lars - iGeneration Megadeath - Sweating Bullets NIN - Please, The Fragile, The Big Come Down and Just Like You Imagined, also The Perfect Drug, Closer, and a couple other tracks. Coheed and Cambria - Nearly everything from their first three albums as Co&Ca Pendulum - Propane Nightmares, and Hold Your Colour Queen - Oh hell yes there's a lot I like from them Snake River Conspiracy - ovesong
... man this list is huge.
Ther'es a lot, we'll leave it at that. D:
