The Keep I've been on TK since I was in the 6th grade and I'm a Senior in High School now. That already proves that TK as been around for a long time but What I would like to know is how deep themine runs, ya know just how long have The Keep and other chat rooms on Nexxushost (formerly Nexxuschat) been around and are there any people from the "old" days still on?

I started at the end of 2002, sometime in December, and as far as I know it was somewhere between 5-8 years old then.

Fuck if I know, but its go to be before 1998. When I started coming to the Keep you used an IP address to get to the site, your own IP was posted when you entered the rooms, and there was a really low limit. Mostly I remember people rushing to login after a crash and snatch the Alpha spot, and people using entry macros when they came into the room.
Maybe someone can help me pin it down from that.

I think the first time I logged in ever, as Kenji, it was way back in 96 too. HTTPChat then too. The christmas tree was up that year and was there to stay. We'd just gotten internet at home. 56k Modem, dialup, we were on Freeserve. Ah, those were the days. ... Man I was such a fucking tool back then, gods above. Eek.

Theoretically we should now begin to see the children of the original users logging in, as it's 2009. 1996 - 2009:
13 years.
That is, children "after keep," not ones born before it.

Do we get a reward for being what must surely be the longest running, oldest still-extant browser based chat room?
Only the MUDs can still give us a run for our money in age.

The reward is the sudden, sick feeling you get in your gut when you realize that you have spent more than a decade arsing around in a chatroom instead of doing something like learn to play a musical instrument, build houses for orphans, or make a million dollars. Enjoy!

I guess I started in mid to late 95. Originally there was no IP address display, that came in probably around late 97 or 98 in response to a particularly annoying spammer. He was smart enough not to post when any of us who knew how to trace him were online, but not smart enough to realise that someone else could note his IP and pass it on, which is what happened, and back then the net was still small enough that an email to the sysadmin of his school got him perma-banned from his schools computer systems. A real community effort I remember Apu. I remember the Apu stick being created. Wherewolf's legendary Barflies pages. Dordanni's sketches (the origin of Maestra's famous physique). The famous Domecam (oddly enough I now work in the building where it was located). And I was wearing an onion on my belt, which was the fashion at the time. The only person around who I know was there before me was Slinky. His brand of humour may not seem funny today, but trust me - back then, it wasn't funny either.

Yeah, a few years ago I was roleplaying with this girl and we were having a good time, and then I got her on messenger and not long into the conversation she informed me that she was 13 and she already knew who I was because she's somebody's daughter (I forget who but it was somebody who I've played with on several occasions and had seen around the forums and the ooc). I then got THAT person on messenger and she confirmed that, yes, I had been talking to her 13 year old daughter and I need to learn to be careful what I say when I don't know how old my conversation partner is. O_o
So there you have it. The second generation is officially here as of two years ago.

Enjoy! I don't know about you but hanging out at tK hasn't quite been the "only" thing I've been doing. More like a little hobby over the years. Now I did get a sickening wrench when I thought about what it would be like to be in the twentieth year of a dungeon grinding MUD which I had never stopped playing. That'd be frightening - a twenty year long addiction to WoW, good heavens.

Its been a while. Less then Rook/SSS, but only maybe by a year or so.
I'm fairly sure after a certain point though you achieve Chat Based Great Old One status and can begin plots for world domination.

Awesome, another nostalgia thread.
I've been here since late 1999. That figure staggers some people, let alone what guys like Rook state as their starting date.
It's hard to believe I've been around nearly ten years. The memory of the old HTTPChat and how antiquated and inconvenient that is nowadays doesn't make it any less endearing to me. The switchover to the current system we have now happened, in fact, on one of my characters' wedding day. Ruined everything it did, haha. I justified it as a dimensional upheaval. The reception was lost somewhere in translation.
Dalton, is that true. Have offspring from original TK users actually logged in? >___>

Yes Soja. For once I'm not trolling or making up weird elaborate unfunny jokes. I really did talk to the 13 year old daughter of an old Keepster, So I think that makes her 15 now. we're still on each others contact list but we don't talk much.

Enjoy! I resent that! I'm on TK alot of the time and I still find time to jam with my band, mkae some cash and build stuff! Granted that stuff I build is in my schools shop room >_>. but I digress..As I said when I started this thread I started in the 6th grade, that was 2002. That dosent seem like a long time on paper but It feels like forever. I cant say much about the old-old days but back when I first started TK was filled with nothing but people wanting to Rp, now its mostly OOC or AFK kind of rooms and stuff like that.

People seem to forget that Mysti, one of the original users of the keep, years back, introduced her son, Pratz, to it too.
That was years ago.
If this place by some (horrible, TERRIBLE) miracle is still alive when/if I have kids, then... I think I'll keep them off it. Or supervise them.
All the time. so I can smack them about the head w hen they use chatspeek or act like munhckins or powergame or make bad characters or break the rules.
"lol dis chat is k3wl-FUK GTG DAD HERE" [meanwhile in real life] "Well ain't that cute.... BUT IT'S WROOOOONGGG!!!" *whamwhamwham* "THOU SHALT TYPE PROPER ENGLISH. THOU SHALT NOT PLAY A SAIYAJIN VAMPIRE NEKO WEREWOLF GODDESS ANGEL DEMON PINYATA CROSSBREED!!" "Okay okay! Stop hitting me pleaaase!" "I'll stop hitting you when you start cleaning up the net. I'm watching youuuu! =.= "Wait a second, dad. Didn't you play a furry?" "..." "..." "...Go to your room." "...fuck."
