Do we get a reward for being what must surely be the longest running, oldest still-extant browser based chat room?

Only the MUDs can still give us a run for our money in age.

The reward is the sudden, sick feeling you get in your gut when you realize that you have spent more than a decade arsing around in a chatroom instead of doing something like learn to play a musical instrument, build houses for orphans, or make a million dollars.

Enjoy!

I resent that! I'm on TK alot of the time and I still find time to jam with my band, mkae some cash and build stuff! Granted that stuff I build is in my schools shop room >_>.
but I digress..As I said when I started this thread I started in the 6th grade, that was 2002. That dosent seem like a long time on paper but It feels like forever. I cant say much about the old-old days but back when I first started TK was filled with nothing but people wanting to Rp, now its mostly OOC or AFK kind of rooms and stuff like that.

I like your rose tinted glasses. Where can I get a pair?

srsly though, the keep's exactly the same as it's always been. Startlingly the same.

Scarily even. The reason why there appears to be 'less' people RPing is because there are MORE people in the chat in general.

The same proportions are there. They're just more visible because there's so many of them.

But everything is exactly the same as when you were all kids here.

...Now if that doesn't scare you, sir, madam, you are braver persons than myself.

It doesn't frighten, it merely... puts things in perspective. Kinda like the whole "YOU ARE A FRIGGIN' DUST MOTE TO THE WORLD AND YOU AIN'T DIDDLY TO THE UNIVERSE" realization everybody has at some point.

People seem to forget that Mysti, one of the original users of the keep, years back, introduced her son, Pratz, to it too.

That was years ago.

If this place by some (horrible, TERRIBLE) miracle is still alive when/if I have kids, then... I think I'll keep them off it. Or supervise them.

All the time. so I can smack them about the head w hen they use chatspeek or act like munhckins or powergame or make bad characters or break the rules.

"lol dis chat is k3wl-FUK GTG DAD HERE"
[meanwhile in real life]
"Well ain't that cute.... BUT IT'S WROOOOONGGG!!!" *whamwhamwham* "THOU SHALT TYPE PROPER ENGLISH. THOU SHALT NOT PLAY A SAIYAJIN VAMPIRE NEKO WEREWOLF GODDESS ANGEL DEMON PINYATA CROSSBREED!!"
"Okay okay! Stop hitting me pleaaase!"
"I'll stop hitting you when you start cleaning up the net. I'm watching youuuu! =.=
"Wait a second, dad. Didn't you play a furry?"
"..."
"..."
"...Go to your room."
"...fuck."

Those poor kids....But what can you do..If my kids ever want to learn a thing or two about the Net i hope they come to TK. There minds would be blown like a newfag to 4chan......(I just want to say that I am no way in the group of people but Sci-Tie's are evil!)

Evil's a horribly subjective term, especially where religion is concerned. Every Christian knows the Devil is Evil and God is Good. Some of them feel that gay people should be considered Evil too, becuase obviously not having children and being romantically involved or even (GASP) having sex with someone of your own gender is EVIL.

Some people think that the people they just murdered were Evil because the voices in their head which are obviously divine told them to.

All sorts of examples exist as to what is 'evil' and what is 'good' for any given moment in time, be the reasons political, religious, personal, or whatever.

Not to say that some things I've HEARD about Scientologists haven't made me shudder with revulsion, but I don't think 'evil' is a word that can be used without some forethought. It gets bandied aruond so often these days.

To put it in counterpoint, they probably feel the 4channers who so horribly bullied and repressed their peaceful display are Evil.

Whereas the 4channers who felt obliged to make a peaceful, if exuberant, display to make their feelings known about Scientology also felt that the Scientologists were Evil for their own practices.

Who's really right?

I put forth the motion that there is one unanimous truth in the world.

And that is Pie.

Why not have some?

If this thread turns into a religious or moral debate I'm going to troutslap all of you. Make a separate thread for such things please.

Anyway I for the longest time also believed that TK had gotten worse somehow. That there were more afkers and OOCers than ever, that the roleplayers were worse and more obsessed with crappy novels and anime than ever, etc. But I stopped and thought about it--I mean REALLY thought about it--and took off my own rose tinted glasses.

I stopped and remembered some of the people I roleplayed with when I was sixteen. While I had been remembering my best RPing partners, there's dozens of others I had joined over the years whose company I enjoyed despite them clearly being sub-par roleplayers. Back then I could get along with the crazy otakus who made blatantly ripped off characters (back then there was no Naruto, so everybody was DBZ or Inuyasha)

But I had fun and those kinds of things didn't bother me. They bother me now which is why I find it harder to find RP nowadays. I've just outgrown it I suppose... but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to give it another chance. I made that other thread looking for people to RP with and the offer is still there. If anybody wants to invite me into their little circle of friends I'd be willing to give the generic, public RP another try and see if I can still get some enjoyment out of it.

I want you to get the right KitDreamer: Scientology is NOT a religion! You are right aobut God being good and the devil evil but in the Gospel of Luke Jesus said that if you are not with me your agenst me, that being said if your not with Christ your with the devil (not trying to point the finger at some one or act holyer that any one elsy). Scientology is a tax right off masked as a religion. They slander, KILL, and God only knows what else to get people into there cult with the wallets being drained of all fluid like a tavern wench being sucked dry by some vampire in some rp or book. (Sry in for the simi-rant)

I hope you realize that Kit was kidding.

Except for the bit about pie. He gets one from me thusly. *Gifts*

Christ wanted voluntary followers, lawl, not terrified yes-men. Sure he told them about the horrors of Hell, but that's kind of like me telling you that the road down that way ends in a sheer cliff. I can take you down the sure path, though, but the choice is yours, man.

Now, that's all I'll say on that. I have a lot of philosophical things I could add about evil and whatnot, but this thread is not about that. >|

I hung out a bit with Pratz, actually, hahahar. Mysti too, come to think of it. Then again the community was smaller in those days and everyone tended to know or at least have heard about each other.

Following generations will have it worse. Can you imagine people who realize they've spent their entire lives on the internet in general? Hooked at birth, disconnect on death.

Actually it could even be worse. An entire life spent on 4chan comes to mind.

Dear gods....   I was here when we could still telnet in, and just before the IP's became visible.    I was waiting on news about my loans for school...

Sooo summer 97ish?

From like 25 users,  max,  to  logging in and seeing 250 users logged in..  in public rooms.

Some things have changed,  like the limits,  the layout, some commands...

Others?  Still the same.

And while I don't have kids to come in here,   my oldest niece shows up from time to time, and has strict rules about who she's allowed to talk to.  =)

For some reason,  she thinks Sid is amusing....

Odd child.

On the subject of Pietology, There should be more sharing of pies.

In other news Yeah I was here when they'd put the christmas tree in and IPs were visable, so I'm old, but not ancient.

My ex, SAR, was here from the day the chat opened in the first place apparently though. Go fig. She's not around any more mind. Hasn't been for yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaars.

She's one of the lucky ones who escaped. Sad

Playerthingamacallit has a daughter around that age, Dalton.
Do not ask me why I remember shit like that. I just do. USELESS CRAP is filling up my braincase.

Anyhow. I was.. seventeen, when I first came to the Keep, by proxy of a classmate of mine. 1st year of college.
Think it was late 2002. So, six and a half years by now? Damn...

I started at the end of 2002, sometime in December, and as far as I know it was somewhere between 5-8 years old then.

I've been on this place longer than you?  Christ I feel like an old man now and I'm in my mid 20's

He's probably still terrorizing boys that come within 3 cubic miles of his daughter. Player used to show up like once a year or so for a couple days, but not recently.
