Not been round, or I would have posted sooner.

Frankly, I'm gutted by this.

I pretty much was the 'fan cub' of this author back in the older days, so I guess it's down to me to make this post.

He may not have been as 'popular' as say, Robert Jordan, or Salvatore [the latter I do wonder...] but to hell with it. This guy got me back into full time reading after a couple years of upheaval [about 14 when I picked up Pawn of Prophecy then]. He was also, in my humble opinion a good writer, not too heavy [some critics claim this 'lightweightness' as a flaw] but not childish or such by any means, his works did make you think. And equally as important, they told a damn good story and entertained alongside. Yes, I know not everyone would like his 'mid fantasy' style but eh. You got your stuff. I had mine.

I guess his Belgariad and Mallorean books were the books of my happier adolescent years [14-16 1/2yrs old]. They were a relief, an escape, a new take to look upon the world at, and more after the hell of my life back then. One reason why I was (?!) - no, am fond of his works, especially the 'Belgarath' trilogy [2 sets of five, and then two books, one each on Polgara and Belgarath], among others. The amusing characters [Silk, aka Price Kheldar of Drasnia comes to mind] and other little touches.

G'bye Mr Eddings. Thanks for the fantasy and the great stories.

That's a pity. I always feel sad when a good author passes away. My personal losses were recent, in the departures of Fred Saberhagen and Michael Crichton.

Rest in peace, Mr. Eddings.

One thing I'll say for labour; & that is, that it isn't as offensive as the corresponding mutatory force which now threatens culture in America. I refer to the force of business as a dominating motive in life, & a persistent absorber of the strongest creative energies of the American people. -Lovecraft

Eddings was a much better author than Jordan or Goodkind, fuck any haters. He wrote a ton of good stuff, so here's to you Dave.

Eddings was an excellent author and a progenitor for his particular genre. Up and with the likes of Piers Anthony and Edgar Allen Poe (unrelated genre, but awesome regardless.)

His works have been subtly inspirational to my own imagination.

With this unfortunate circumstance pertaining, it's safe to say that the community of the literate will sorely miss him.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Eddings.

May your afterlife be as beautiful as the literature you created.

The best tribute I heard to Mr Eddings was "...may you live another life exactly like the last one, only with different names."

I had no idea. This is awful. David Eddings was the author who really drew me in to the fantasy genre. I used to fight with my friend over who'd get to borrow the next book in the Belgariad series from the library first!

I feel like an idiot for not finding this out sooner.
