Well, it's come to my attention that Marvel has been purchased by Disney.
Clearly, it is the End of Days.
I'll be distributing hardhats, and I have a limited number of Vaults open for occupation with reasonable rent. Food, water and electricity included of course.
Those brave souls who stare up at the skies as the Nukes fall? Look forward to The Adventures of Wolverine.

When announcing news it's customary to cite links to your source so we know you're not just making stuff up.

Also that's a picture of Iron Man.

If you're trying to troll us you're not doing a very good job.

No trolling, buddy.
My apologies, I forgot to add a source.

And yes, that's a picture of Iron Man.

As long as Disney takes the "Bambi's Mom" approach to Jean Grey, I'm cool with it.

Does this mean that Universal Studios is going to need to re-name all the Marvel rides on Islands of Adventure?

You know, Wolverine with Mickey Mouse ears would be hilarious.

But now I am imagining Mickey Mouse, in his trademark voice, going "Snickt, bub! Hehehe!"

and that's creepy.

This is a total non-issue. Anyone who honestly thinks that Disney bought the Marvel characters to put Mickey Mouse ears on them is an idiot. Disney is a labyrinthine corporation that, in addition to their many holdings, owns Miramax and Touchstone Pictures, who are known to produce R-Rated movies. Miramax was the distributor for Kill Bill. In fact, this might be a good thing, as Marvel will get some more corporate muscle behind them and once the current contracts expire, all their licenses will be IN ONE PLACE. That means an X-Men cartoon can have fucking Nova or Moon Knight show up if they want! Why in the hell would Disney have bought Marvel for 4 BILLION DOLLARS if they didn't want to own, well, Marvel?

Alternatively,

This is a rather good thing for those of us still hoping for a Marvel vs Capcom 3. Though, with many Marvel properties as popular as they are now due to the movies being produced, the expense of the liscense might still well be too high for it to happen. It's promising, though.

This is a good time for a new Marvel vs Capcom game... it's not the mid-90s and the Avengers have never been more popular. So maybe a new MvC game wouldn't have nine versions of Wolverine and goddamn Marrow and maybe we'll actually get a Fantastic Four character.

Eh. I overreacted, so I suppose I owe an apology. But still, Marvel is huge and i'd think it worth more. Disney seems to be assimilating everything, but if they are keeping the original writers and such, then fine, all well and good. But would they really let characters like Punisher be published?

MARVEL? Worth more than DISNEY? Are you freakin' SERIOUS? Mickey Mouse (along with Ronald McDonald) is the most widely recognized figure in the world. Disney is in just about every developed country, with revenue streams coming in that would boggle the mind.

Bingo. I know Disney is absolutely huge, but Marvel is just as big, just dominating in a different section of the entertainment business right? They're taking an entirely new branch, from what I know.

No. Thing about companies like Disney and AOL Time Warner and whatnot is that they don't just own the things that have their name stamped all over it. They own dozens of other companies just like Marvel and, while they don't stamp their names all over it, they still own it and profit from it.

Marvel is a big shot in the Comic industry, but the Comic industry is very small compared to media overall. Marvel's assets are worth just under a billion dollars ($900 million) while Disney's are worth $60+ billion. In other words, Marvel is a big fish in a small pond, and just found its way to the sea.

But would they really let characters like Punisher be published?

Disney owns Touchstone and Miramax, which have worked with movies like Miracle at St. Anna's and No Country for Old Men (Both R-rated movies). Disney doesn't give a shit about what it makes, as long as no one is getting gored to death by Tinkerbell. So long as its subisidiary chain insulates the 'Disney' brand from its other projects, Marvel can make whatever it wants.

Worth more than 4 BILLION DOLLARS? That's a shitload of money.

And BoC, I didn't know Marvel was worth that much! You'd think otherwise what with all the complaining about how the comic book industry is going to die out from tons of comic book industry pundits. That and the question "How can we convince the whole world to read our product because nothing is worth bothering with if EVERY person in the world isn't deeply familiar and intrenched in it and obviously we are just pathetic virgins if what's going on in Spider-Man right know isn't known by 16 year old girls" are the perennial favourites of people who have to have something to cry plump tears about, in regards to comics.

When a small IP company is bought by a big IP company, the thing to watch for is not necessarily will the product be the same, but whether the style of management and the delivery of service changes.

I understand that a lot of people are really unhappy with Marvel's style of management, so is this a terrible loss?

Hopefully the first thing Disney does is suspend Joe Quesada over a pit of Dip until he repeals Brand New Day, the "Peter sold his marriage to Mary-Jane to the Devil" storyline.

And maybe Disney will find Diamond Comics Distributors to be intolerable (why deal with one monopoly when you can have your own?) which could possibly be a good thing, but previous attempts to break their strangehold have failed.
