Just thought I'd put this out here, given that it's been mentioned a few times to do it. Didn't wanna steal Pitch's thunder by doing it myself, but it's not getting anywhere on the other one.

Also, if I'm not Mistaken, the candidates those for wanting to be an Arena mod are as follows thus far....

Pitch - Nominated
Achreios - Nominated
Sheng - Nominated
Iria - Self-Nominated
Gigi - Self-Nominated
kittysrule - Self-Nominated
Rampage - Nominated

If I missed anyone I'll edit it and re-post. Seven day poll, have at it.

Kade brought something to my attention on this.

Voting no means you think the Arena doesn't need it's own mod, period.

It does not mean you think the Arena needs a mod that's not it's own.

I'm just going to say this again (so that you, y'know, don't get angry if, for all your voting, nothing happens): tK is not a democracy. Polls and votes and such are nice, but...

...If it's not a democracy, how come we all have to vote on someone from the OOC Lobby every time the 'We picked a Global Mod" train comes around....?

I don't get it.

Y'know? I'm tired of hearing this. We know it's not a democracy. But we also know any admin who gives a damn will do something if he can clearly see that a large percentage of his (visible) population want something--much like how Web went out and made the art forum after Pink and co. all came and suggested it.

Let's be encouraging users to speak up, not discouraging it.

That's more of a performance evaluation to get feedback from users to say if they're doing a good job or not. The actual picking part isn't really user defined.

Well, I must say I straight up voted 'no'. Probably because whats the point of voting for a guy picked out of a small circle of friends nestled exclusively in one room on the chat. It doesn't make any sense to me.

But democracy or not, I know that talking to Webby or Rook about things civilly and one on one gets things done if you're lucky. Apparently better than making a forum thread about it. So thats our next move. Screw voting.

Still, I wont deny I'm a bit disgusted. Starting to sound like one would have to 'log' time in said room and schmooze/kiss ass just to be considered for something as simple as a single room moderator. So I'm just kind of done with it.  /pissy

As sad as it is, I can only agree with Pitcheh and Dalton on this one.

Yeah, it's an evaluation, but the point here being, WHEN THE FUCK do we see a moderator, even trial, who is NOT a Lobby Hangaround?
Yes, I am aware that there are currently 3 trial mods in the MH. That's a good start.
But we're damn well far from the proper finish line here.

Fuck it, I've held back for so long.
Make me a global, and I goddamn swear that I will handle problems. Professionally. Effectively. I know the ins and outs of the MH, the Lobby, I'm learning the Arena, and the rest of TK is a bunch of kids with some issues every now and again. I've been around long enough to know how to handle issues.

Furr, shut the fuck up. No one wants you to be a mod.

Also Pitcheh, welcome to the conclusion the rest of us came to years ago (the mods are arbitrarily picked by whoever the staff likes, and then includes them into their secretive, ruling clique and nothing ever changes.)

I guess I'm late catching up to it. XD Well, I'll be the Noob here,  but yeah. I also hate how it's vehemently denied. Anyone who's been here longer than 3 years knows exactly where every-single-moderator comes from. Which is why I'm wondering:...how much time do I need to log in the Lobby kissing ass before we're allowed to TRY this suggestion we so-called "Arena Kids" have come up with? Seriously? I'll even bring a  Flesh Light if thats what it takes, but I'm not giving anyone head.

Hey, guys, come on. Let's not make this like the 500 other forum threads and keep on the original topic without going at each other's throats.

Should the Arena have a moderator? Yes, no, maybe? We've already driven the point home that the staff is chosen based around the OOC Lobby. But why? Primarily because that's where the staff hangs out, and it's there that they see how certain users handle themselves around other users. Without any other frames of reference, new staff members are chosen from there. I don't want to say that who becomes a mod or not is based strictly on who is butt-buddies with the sysops, but it IS based on what they get to see and who they would deem responsible enough.

Is it fair? No, because there's an entire other chat, and the OOC Lobby only makes up a small percentage of the entire population of the Keep. We do have a fairly big userbase. It would be nice to see more moderation rather than just that centered in the Lobby, and we are, little by little. I don't think an Arena moderator would be a bad thing. If we had a Pub moderator--which has a significantly less number of frequent users and still did at the time we had one--, then I don't see why we shouldn't have a moderator for rooms with more traffic, like the Arena or the Forest.

The room biases are bullshit and you all know it. But that's not the question here. So can we address the real question like big boys and girls?

I am just going to note, Dalton, that in the other threads you and several other people actually accused Web Janitor of being a corrupt and evil bastard for not removing basically the entire mod staff and replacing it with people that are "Better". I mean he was flat out accused of ignoring the problem just because he's friends with the moderators off the clock and thus by that logic he must ignore any issue the users bring up and lets SSS and so forth get away with anything. If I was him ((And this is likely why I do not run anymore Rps and would never ever get to be a moderator)) at this point I would be ignoring you and the rest of these people (Excluding a few, Pitcheh,Jester.) He has every right after the shit that's been said about him, Rook and the moderators wherever the truth may lie, I've found it's usually in between both sides of such an argument. Seriously though you guys need to make a decision, is Web-J a fair and nice guy (Yes. He is and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to step back and realize the guy has paid for TK out of his own pocket more than once. I imagine Rook may have as well thus the long period we did not have/need donations) or that he is an evil son of a bitch who is corrupt and lets his mods harass and abuse users because there his friends. You cannot have it both ways.

Also I voted no simply because the rare times I do Rp in the Arena except for a few people, the ooc really calms down, in fact most the ooc that I get when I rp in there is some douche trying to tell me what I can and cannot do with a fantasy base character. They tell me I can't do something because it's not real or doesn't follow the law of physics (Like an eighteen foot tall, twisted fucked up Marilith has anything to do with reality and physics to begin with) which in turn spawns me to respond in whatever way and this ooc is born. This is how it usually goes people commenting on the Rp/Battles/Arguments going on in there while Rp goes on around them. Other than that the ooc isn't that bad and you can always ask a global mod to tell them to keep it down. I almost always see one of them on messengers be it Mikail on AIM or Moondog on MSN.

It really does seem a bit unfortunate, and I do agree with Lugh on popular rooms having mods. I don't see any reason against that, really.
But you know, don't belittle and try to de-legitimize the concerns of users, especially when it's peacefully brought to you. There's a really big attitude out there that the mods seem smug, untruthful and generally uncaring. I think that by being more willing to listen and be a peacekeeper, you'd be doing a lot to stave off complaints that you don't want to hear.
Kindness does a lot for you.
