That's nice and all, but this isn't about the mods or how they enforce themselves. This is about how the AUP needs to be re-written.

I don't, because this is a stupid chat that's good for wasting time and talking to relative strangers about interests and pretending to be elves and shit and however the owners want to run it that's their business.

At the same time though, I do suggest running this chat in a way that doesn't alienate users, and is relatively open. I'm just not going to be upset if they don't.

The "it's just a stupid chat" maxim goes both ways - users shouldn't flip out that the staff aren't giving them manicures, but at the same time the staff shouldn't be all cloak and daggery, pretending as if being a moderator is an actual political position, or anything important.

I have no issues with the moderation. Perhaps that is because I've never given them cause to have issues with me.

Regardless, I come here to role-play. As long as they pop in and knock around the noggins of folks who are interferring with said RP, then I have no issues with them at all. Thus far, I've only seen a good track-record in them doing so when requested.

The answer then seems to be to avoid the rooms where the mods hang out, thus giving them no chance to get personal with you and no reason to personally want you gone.

Good idea, that.

If you're never in an OOC room, you'll probably never have to deal with a mod.

Especially if you keep things IC. The more OOC there is the more problems there will be.

(This is barring the three major no-nos of RP - blurring, godmoding, and metagaming.)

But even those are totally negotiable amongst the players involved in the RP.

Otherwise...

In the words of Will Smith in the major motion picture Men In Black...

"Don't start nothin', won't be nothin'."

Aww HAYL naw!!

No really. The "as long as you're never in an OOC room" - truth. Although, I'm counter Arena as an OOC room in this statement. I mean mods have helped me before when my name gets bugged but other than that, never see 'em in arr pee rooms. I don't think I've ever encountered a non-technical problem that couldn't be self-governed. I think being generally REASONABLE oocly is the key to avoiding these problems.

The Mods usually make huge decisions together, not just as individuals. I think they're trying their best.

As for them hanging out in the OOC Lobby, that doesn't mean they aren't roleplaying in other rooms under different names. It actually doesn't matter what room they are in, sense they are global moderators they can fix a problem in any room. Which they have helped me with issues of spamming and harassment so I can't complain.

It is hard to get to know them personally when I myself, like to hang out in the MH. However, they have been making an effort to come say hello in there too.

You don't want to get to know the mods personally. At least, not certain ones. It works fine if you make them like you but if you are uncompromising you might be disliked and start having to watch your step as certain mods keep an eye on you, waiting for an AUP violation. Really it's safest if the mods haven't got a clue who you are. Chances are, though, anybody who uses this forum is probably already known, so that advice is a bit late.

You don't know me. There is nothing to see here. These aren't the droids you're looking for.
