I think we need a topic on ideas to help TK.
As a concerned member for RP everywhere, I have been around to many chats and fourms. I think TK should step their game up..

*drum roll*
on the first of my list...

PV/CV
PV=PlayerVotes. At any time, a member or TK's chat can, while in any room, "vote" for another player. The more votes you have, the more likely you are to be a helpfull roleplayer or a good, modled and lead player in: operating for TK staff, helping new players, voting, hosting images for others, reviewing profiles, reporting abusive members, offering good mentorship on posts, etc.

The more "PV" a player has, the more respected he/she should be. PV, in this sense, is close to a rank or title given to you BY OTHER PLAYERS.

CV= CharacterVotes. At any time, like above, another player may "vote" on another's character. The bigger this number, the more in depth, played out, and accepted your character is. If your playing an invincible dragon god, great, but your character may not recieve many votes. Players like to see drama, weakness, addiction and stregenth in characters They should be beliveable, and grabbing.

The more CV a player has, the better writtin their character, the better the player gets into that character. (If the profile says he is a drunkard, the character should be in a bar alot. If a vampire, feeding or lust for bloodspill should be apparent, ect.) These votes are granted to you by other players.

get it?

any other suggestions?

"Popularity Contests."

No thanks.

EDIT: I should go into greater detail, so it seems like I'm not just being negative.

What you're proposing is a good idea in a vacuum, but when put into action, will quickly break itself.

Player Votes = Popularity Contest. I know many of us like to pretend we're objective and mature and evaluate based on merit, but ultimately, we'll end up up-voting the people who we like, and if down-voting is put into play, dumping on those we don't.

I could see many people just downvoting everyone to be spiteful. That's how people on the internet are. There aren't any repercussions for being a douche (within the rules, at least), after all.

Same with Character Votes, although, to me, they seem more of a smug-elitist thing, just like the occasional 'neko-catcher' that roams around, tormenting the poor newbies with absurd and unreasonable-verging-on-godmode-technology.

People who go 'NO, THIS IS HOW YOU PLAY <whatever>" will be downvoting everyone who doesn't agree with their views, up-voting those who do. It would end up being little more than a hammer to beat over the head of people.

And, there's the option of leaving voting to the moderator staff. Which, I, personally, have no interest in. I don't care that YOUR vampire follows Stokerian conventions, while another follows Underworld's tripe, while another is a Camarilla Tremere Elder. I certainly don't want to have to sift through proposals for voting said characters up/down.

No "down-voting" And yes. Voting can be left up to mods/admins. WHO ARE HONEST

Character votes are an iffy subject. Again, just an idea. Im not saying we cannot have fuzzies or vampires. Im saying that those who GET INTO those characters, and remember that noone is perfect, deserve to be commended on good roleplaying. (WHICH IS ALL ABOUT "GETTING INTO CHARACTER" anyway. Theatre class anyone?)

As for player votes? What about "stars" then? Not "anti stars."

It would still end up as a popularity contest.

This is an absolutely godawful idea, especially if you want to hinge it upon the trustworthiness of the moderators. Also, you realize people like me would just spam vote the fuck out of people like Pink, or  spam vote some horrible furry with the worst profile in tK as a joke, right?

It's true, he would. So would Pink, for that matter, I bet.

Also, if you're gonna ask for ideas, you should probably give some other examples. Otherwise it's like "Okay, so... How do you mean help tK?"

....Why do I get the oddest feeling that the people who most often 'want to offer ideas for improvements' are people who haven't been around for long enough to get an accurate reading of this place?

Also, I'd like to point out:
Quote
The more votes you have, the more likely you are to be a helpfull roleplayer or a good, modled and lead player in: operating for TK staff, helping new players, voting,
....So obviously, voting makes you a 'helpful roleplayer or a good, modled and lead player'?
I think that translates to "If I vote, people'll vote for me!", at which point my sense of logic stutters and falls apart.

Also, voting is kinda de-valued when you realize you can make as many handles as you want to vote for as many people as many times as you want, etc.

Realms might do this kind of thing.

Voting is not necessarily a good idea. Do people like giving "+1 karma you're awesome" notes to each other? That would be better, no competition.

Terrible, terrible idea. I can't even believe this voting thing was ever suggested.

Suggestion.....nix the voting.

Do what we've done for any number of years that we've been doing it. Seems to be working fine the way it is, as it has been. Not saying that a little bit of change is beheading the hydra, but why try to fix things that aren't broken?

TK does a good job of doing this by itself. No formal systems need to be in place. As long as you are not batshit insane or as stupid as fuck, there won't be a (Widespread) problem with you.
