Looking to start a long game of Adventure! from White Wolf. It'll be the d10 system and likely just a one-off but it could develop into something longer running if it goes well.

Setting and Plot: The characters, through luck, skill or an interesting lack of both will find their way into the criminal underworld of Shanghai in the early 1930s. A murder will set up a cascading series of events that will bring the heroes face to face with Triad thugs, Russian mob, British soldiers, local police and a strange mystic-man. Specific details can't be divulged yet as that would, naturally, ruin the game for everyone.

System: As I said, the game will be d10 Adventure! from White Wolf (which can be found here in .pdf format http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8V1LF56Q ) with slight modifications that will be explained in the days before the game. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of the Story Teller d10 system (Aberrant, Trinity, Vampire) should feel right at home in Adventure!

Date and Time: I'm looking for a long run on this one. I'm available most days, and even days that I'm not regularly available I can make adjustments to. Now, when I say "long run" I mean about ten or so hours. So, yes, it's a marathon session. I was hoping for maybe a Saturday at about twelve noon EST (-5 GMT), but if any other days or times works best for the majority, I'll see what I can do.

Questions or comments can either be directed to me in the chat or here.

This certainly does sound interesting. Depending on the scheduling, yadda yadda, I might be interested.

... totally not partially due to being midway through a marathon of James Bond films.

Count me in. You's crazy for the marathon, but count me in.

Now, what to make.

Depending on which Saturday you play, I may also be able to make your normally enjoyable gaming experience feel like it is lasting a small and painful eternity.

We must stick to our skills.

A sneaky scout with mysterious connections to the Chinese underworld!

I'll get back to you with specifics in like five minutes.

Why am I posting this here? No clue.

I'm in.
Still not sure of the idea, though.
Indy-type, possibly. We'll see what possibilities Adventure! opens up for.

That's no marathon, that's what I was used to D&D sessions being.

Anyway, my idea so far: Daredevil archetype, possibly using a passed-down codename, similar to a theory about James Bond. However, probably a somewhat less serious character - while he's likely to have One Man Army and Untouchable, he's also quite likely to go "Uh... uh! Fuck!" and start diving for cover.

This is just a preliminary idea, though, and I'll likely come up with a better one later.

The archetypes are:

Daredevils - The closest to being just normal people. Their knacks don't require any kind of activation but also have the least impact to them and generally rely more on consequence of action rather than making them more powerful in overt ways.

Mesmerists - Closer to the psions of Trinity. Using psychic knacks, these people have abilities along the lines of low-end telekinesis and telepathy, teleportation of objects, sleight of hand and hypnosis. Useful stuff.

Stalwarts - Closer to the novas of Aberrant. Using dynamic knacks, these people have better damage potential in combat but tend to not have as much use outside of fighting situations and tend to need to defer to another player to be the group's "face."

If I had to give examples of known fictional characters?

Daredevils - Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes, Race Bannon, Zorro.

Mesmerists - Hadjii, Mandrake the Magician, The Shadow (to an extent).

Stalwarts - Tarzan, Dick Tracy, Batman.

The table of contents for character stuff/rules for Adventure! is on page 108 by the page finder. Why would you not have a table of contents prior to all the splat?

I've noticed that much of White Wolf's stuff is set up like that. It's annoying.

A couple of things.

It came to my attention that I should mention that the game is (surprisingly) full up. If anyone is interested and missed out on the chance to join, feel free to post on the thread so I'll have a list if anyone drops (first come, first serve).

Secondly, the game has a whole chapter on how to make and use super science inventions and gadgets. This is cool. Don't make assumptions though, talk to me about what it is you're hoping to invent and we'll work out the dice rolls to see if it's successful.

Lastly, I'd really like a reason for each character to be involved in the criminal world of Shanghai. Either as a part of it or someone who wants to subvert it or stop it. Anything will work, really, could be a shop owner who's tired of paying protection.

Alrighty! I'm making a super-stealthy mesmerist with mind-fogging and influencing abilities, with a couple ranks in cipher and contacts.

Whoever I make, they're wearing a zoot suit, doing martial arts, and will have A) One-Man Army and B) Untouchable. The rest are things I need to figure out.

Possibilities:
An infiltrating agent, with a passed-down codename.
An up-and-comer in the crime scene, trying to make a name for himself.
A hitman.
A kung-fu chef in debt to a crime boss.

Actually, debt to a crime boss would about work with just about anything. Might just have a martial arts-doing musician in debt to a crime boss. That sounds like a cool one.

I'm sure I'll come up with something viable.
