Your Sysadmin, Web, hereby challenges you in a game of competitive D&D 3.5e, in a very special campaign setting.

Web

SETTING: You are one of the Bad Old Ones, a primordial soul that tried to usurp the will of the Godlings. For that you were banished to the depths of the Plane of Shadow, never to return. In the ensuing millenia, your soul has broken free of the prison that held you there and has incarnated in the Prime Material. The Godlings sleep now, unaware of your return.

THE PLOY: You have banded together with like-minded beings to raise an army and harvest the Souls of Men to fuel your ambitions. Though you will have allies to aid you in your adventures, old foes have also returned. They, too, have designs on supremacy and will stop at nothing to destroy you. You will start with a small base, a limited number of assistants, and some PC co-adventurers. Some of you will be adventurers, and will scour the realm for magical artifacts to further your own ends. Some of you will be crafters, building the engines of destruction and managing hordes of underlings. And some of you will be generals, commanding legions of followers to crush all that stand in your way. Cast your fate in with the Dwarves, the Goblinoids, the Drow or the Undead and master the free world.

THE TECHNOLOGY: Running on the old NWN game platform, anyone with a computer capable of half-decent performance will have the opportunity to engage in this campaign. NWN will run on PC, Mac and Linux, it is one of the true cross-platform games NWN was released in 2002 and is available for next to nothing. Bonus points if you find a copy floating around in the retail world. The campaign we will be playing adds never before seen features - hundreds of new monsters, items, weapons, cloaks, rideable horses, terrains, spells and special abilities. More than 40 players can join the fun.

THE TIME: Date of the first running is TBA. The game will played over the course of a single evening. It is a high action, intense module. All players will start at level 1-3 and will have subrace options, plus a choice of starting equipment. A training session will be available to get used to the controls and experience the game.

CAN I PLAY?: Absolutely. The game is easy to pick up and understand, light in time commitments and adheres as closely as possible to 3.5 rules.

It accommodates most play styles, whether you :

1) just want to form an adventuring group and loot dungeons
2) want to run the army or command a group of NPC soldiers
3) want to craft and explore the far reaches of the world
4) want a mix of all three

Top players will be given the command tools for one of the four factions: Dwarves, Drow, Unclean Hordes (think goblins and orcs), or the Undead Necromancers and will be responsible for motivating their team as the Team Leader.

Got a guild that would be interested? Sign the whole thing up to a single faction, play an entire group with your friends and your beck and call. You'll be welcome to use the chat interface or add in Skype to make it easier to run.

Are newbs welcome? I want to play but I'm no good... Of course you're welcome! All comers are welcome. If you've never even heard of D&D, you're still welcome to play. NWN is easy to pick up and easy to play. There'll be a training game specifically to help show you the ropes.

I'm super pro, can I play? Absolutely. I look forward to annihilating you in open combat, Mr. Pro!

This setting sounds silly! Naturally! The purpose of this game taking a break from our intensive, deeply planned roleplay sessions for a bit of good old fashioned fun.

You are truly the most glorious of Web~Janitors. That aside. . .

I challenge you, sir!

MY NAME IS MOONDOG.

I am available to play all days of the week, although Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, I may not play past 9 PM Eastern (Friday) or Midnight (Wednesday or Friday).

For a change of pace, my preferred team will be not the Undead, but the SPIDERS.

I'd love to play, but I'll have to pass. I don't even know whether NWN is available for Macs.

Edit: Or they do, but it's expensive as heck.

You're restarting this? I would love to play if I still be welcome of course. I'd just need a quick refresher on what CEP's and what not we need again, I can't quite recall exactly what was needed and exactly where one got it. Still it always so much fun playing with all of you, the chance to do so again is simply to...exciting to pass up. I'm as always available each day in the afternoon and evenings and am up for any of the factions.

There you are. Was wonderin' where you'd been.  Look forward to playin' with ya.
Harvest Of Souls requires the CEP 2.3 Getting it to work is pretty simple.

We can find you a cheap copy. NWN's one of the few games that can even be played on Linux.

This might let you use a normal PC copy, which is much, much, much cheaper.

I can ask my brother how to get it running in Linux, he did it for me before. It didn't run perfectly but to be fair I didn't have a very good computer back then.

Anyone else out there who just never got into D&D for whatever reason? -- I feel like my time has passed and it's too late to pick up.

NWN isn't really D&D, it's a computer game that vaguely resembles D&D like Harvest Moon resembles farming corn.

This sounds like you are implying farming corn to be more fun than playing Harvest Moon.

So anyway, here are a pair of semi-tutorial videos about Harvest of Souls. With lots of yelling, because that's how I roll.

You need Neverwinter Nights, and these files:

(NWN is available for 10 bucks or free if you already own the game. Diamond edition includes all of the expansions)

The Harvest of Souls Module which requires the CEP 2.3 and that should be all you need.

I really wish there was a way to get your Cd-Key back if you had your disc but had misplaced the booklet, I can't seem to find mine suddenly and it was here recently. Don't suppose anyone who has the game has a spare cd-key huh? Ima keep looking for mine of course but in case I can't find it I figured there was no harm in asking.

Rosery:

1) Go here: http://nwn.bioware.com/my_account/index.html
2) Log in (your account name used to be Rosery- if I'm not mistaken. The same username and password you used to get online)
3) Click Edit My Account (center of the screen)
4) Click Original NWN (on the right side)
5) Record your CD keys, they're all here.

Done.

If I could actually give steady time commitments, I completely would do this.
