There would not be an option for dispute. The Ombudsmen are not Mods, they are -from what I read- simply to ensure the Mods are doing the things they should, which means they will be checking them against the AUP. There won't be any room for personal quarrels. If the Mod in question does deliver a ban, or handle an issue in a way that does not follow the rules of tK, then yes, the judgement should be questioned. If they aren't, then the Ombudsmen cannot do anything.
But this is all hypothetical discussion at this point. It is a shared view of possible problems within a scenario. Maybe these Ombudsmen are just what tK needs.
Maybe they'll just make everything worse and stop the use of tK all together.
Maybe these three will play a crucial role in the down fall and utter extinction of all mankind.
I'unno.

I haven't read most of the posts since my God Damn Goat. Getting that out of the way.
However, I think Auvic has a point. Calling us yes-men because we've generally been agreeable to the mods, due entirely to coming to the conclusion that the mods were correct... maybe you should consider that we really did just come to those conclusions on our own, rather than as some currying of favor. I've personally given Rook, at least, shit for at least one ban; most bans are fairly legitimate, in my opinion, whether the people banned seem to think so or not.
Not Stealth Edit At All: Oh, good, that got cleared up while I was typing. Thank you for giving us a chance, I guess.
Also, as for us all being from the Lobby: We do know each other, and I'm fairly certain KB and Lurkdom are two very reasonable people. Myself? Hell if I know, though I was kind of ambivalent on accepting, because, truth be told, I like insulting people when I feel they deserve it, but I did get... seven separate people nominating me, though all but Auvic have seen me in tK proper, where I do hang out in the OOC Lobby (because I'm constantly OOC and the Lobby's got that in the title, yeah), and nobody arguing against it, so... speak up earlier next time.
After all, didn't Web post it on the public boards? You know, where people put things if they want, well, the people's opinion?

I don't like the term Anti-mod. Why was it implied that when someone speaks up, when maybe the moderator staff did something wrong, that they don't 'respect' them. I respect the staff a great deal and the users of the keep. This isn't a personal attack on you Familiar, I'm not sure why you're viewing it like that. I understand that you feel like I'm upset only because I wasn't picked, or anyone else I know. But you can't turn around and say the reason you're happy about the choice is because they are your friends. That you only want people on board that you know have your back. "If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, and can respect that coming from Ombudsmen who also respect me." When Webby first put the thread up, I said I was extremely interested. I was never approached after that and I didn't hear anything. But my complaining isn't because I wasn't picked. It's because the people who were picked are just the same group that hang around the moderating staff anyways. I just wished that there could of been at least one person outside of that group to give their opinions. |

I guess I should have used another term besides "anti-mod"...
But I didn't mean people who hated mods, and were out to get them.
I meant people that have a problem with the way Mods have apparently been doing things, the whole reason this group is being created. I just feel that people who are strongly against the "poor handling" of the Mods, would be best qualified to ensure that the Mods did act fairly, and according to the rules of the AUP.

You know there were nominations, right? If you weren't approached, that's perhaps because you didn't receive as many? And when starting out on a new soup, you don't want too many chefs.
And there are no opinions. Opinions will not come into play in any deliberations we make. There is no such thing as 'representation' or 'disenfranchisement' because we are not a legislative body. We are a panel of devil's advocates. All that will matter is fact and record.
So I know the moderating staff. That's a side-effect of being a user and active member of the site for a decade, and for hanging out in a room that is specifically the primary ghetto for OOCing about. I've had my disagreements about staff decisions long before it became cool to start riots on the forums about it, and I've also had plenty of experience lobbying for users who shall remain unnamed unless they feel like stepping forward.
And Robo, I respectfully disagree. Being strongly against the moderators is a bias in and of itself and is not necessarily helpful to the ends we are trying to achieve. Balance, I believe, is key.
