There's a place and a time for everything - I'm certainly not against iron rule of law or making it a flat-out permaban for use of the word 'nigger'. HOWEVER - It should not be tolerated (because tolerating it means it's okay to use) in a polite society and it's flagrant and insulting use SHOULD be used sparingly/discretely, and the moderators should have the right to kick people out for it's use. Talking about how much you hate  people in genera and how race in particular means nothing to you doesn't mean it isn't an issue to the rest of us intelligent, civilized people who would genuinely like to see the world be a somewhat less terrible place.

1. Do not confuse my words. Me, personally - I couldn't give a shit less about what people say to me. That's not what I am arguing.
2. Stop with the condescending words and personal arguments - it makes you look stupid.

Words have as much power as you give them, which is actually a motto I've always gone with, personally. It's why I don't get offended when people say things about me - and trust me, I've got a lot of things you can call me. However, that doesn't mean it isn't possible that words gain some power from outside sources. The word 'nigger' isn't offensive to black people in the same inherent way that calling someone " a dumb fuck" is offensive - yes, they're both aimed at one person, but the latter is an insult levied against a person, while the former is an insult with years upon years of historical significance and one that is used to insult an entire race, not just the individual you are targeting.

While you can make the argument that people should not be offended by a word (a statement I wholeheartedly agree with), you cannot change the fact that some people are offended. If you would further say, "well, fuck those people for being offended", you'd have a second statement I agree with. Life's too short to waste your time over ugly words and getting upset over what comes out of another's mouth.

However, this does NOT mean that the use of the word should be celebrated, and actively pursued. A word like 'nigger' is highly offensive and for good reason. There is a history and negative inclination to the word. I'm sure everyone in this thread has used the word at least once, on the internet or in real life. It's a word that carries a lot of meaning past being a simple insult, and as I said, there should be a time and a place to put it to good use (serious intellectual debate is one, art is another.), and there are times when it's bad to use (just about everywhere else). The point is not that the word is offensive to some, and that people should grow thicker skin and be done with it, but the fact that the word in and of itself is an ugly one that goes back to a time where people were not as educated as they are now.  As a society/community/group/whatever, we should be able to look at the word now, and whether it offends us or not, make the conscious choice to no longer use it or, at the very least, not celebrate it's use to try and incite anger.

Using the word for humor makes you look stupid; using it as an insult makes you seem like an ignorant bigot. Neither use makes you look like an intelligent, well adjusted human being.

Well, for one: My argument was against your argument. Not your personal opinion
Two: I'm not using personal insults toward you, but noted and reiterated the statement I made prior to your argument, which words are only as powerful as the offended make them
Three: Try not to seem like an omniscient bigot, that makes you look stupid.

And yeah, I agree with your statement; fuck those who get offended. But it's not because life is short, it's because life has too many complications in it's already hard-to-deal-with times to let something as trivial as a six letter word belittle someone and offend them to the very core of their soul. Yeah, the word is offensive, but it's only offensive because people give that word power. Like saying you're not sick, but in the back of your mind you feel like your body caught something, and in turn, believe that so much while passive-aggressively denying it until you actually get sick.

I actually didn't say I was offended, so stop making more out of the argument that's there. You clearly seem to have trouble with reading comprehension, Tony because you can't seem to follow anything that's being said here.

And the word has been used on the forums as well as in the chat on multiple occasions. It's stemming from the fact I wanted to bring to light : and that's that the word is being used with more and more frequency without anything being said/done about it. It's not a particular offense to me, but a marked change in Keep policies. I'm simply bringing attention to the situation. It's really up to the staff to decide on how they want to handle it.

Otherwise, Inquisitor's point remains correct. And, bringing a subject to attention/starting a thread for conversation is not pointless. If you want to be a defeatist and unwilling to change/inact change, then you can keep that to yourself. Let the useful people actually get things done.
