Gentlemen, meet Gloria.

152 Repeaters
150 Pistons
300+ Cobblestone
18 Dirt
5 Redstone Torches
1 Minecart
2 Detector Rails
2 Powered Rails
4 Regular Rails
Ye Olde Fuckton of Redstone

As you can see from the signs, this is intended to be the heart of an automated fortress security system. It counts precisely one minute from start to finish, in 4-tick intervals, and has a reboot circuit built in, consisting of those 150 Pistons and 150+ of that cobblestone, probably about 200 of the Redstone, all five torches, and the minecart and rails. She's not quite pretty as she could be, but she's in the bottom of an experimentation area, not where I intend her to stay; wonder if I can get my hands on 150 Iron blocks and 18... I 'unno, Gold or something.

Look in the chests at my place, should be plenty of iron around, which you're welcome to.

Also check the furnaces, and if you can find where my desert was (look for the gigantic floating sandstone structure), there's a chest full of goodies.

There's also a small house made of leaves and clay with a chest of goods in it too. You can have those as well~

I'm going to ask a likely stupid question, but what exactly does the reboot circuit do and why does it require the use of pistons? Its likely something I should know, or at the very least wantt o know for my automated devices as well

The clock worked pretty well when it was just one layer tall and used only 150 repeaters and 18+whatever is used to connect to the switch redstone, except for this thing that would happen whenever I /warp or disconnect and reconnect - the signal freezes in place.

So, I needed to find a way to make it not freeze. Looked some things up, found out about a rebooting technique where you use a piston placed so it extends upward adjacent to the signal. So, what the reboot circuit does is flicker on and off to make sure the power keeps moving when I disconnect and reconnect, so I don't have to spend more time standing around resetting the clock than I do anything else. Minecart provides the power to the pistons, as minecarts continue to move even after disconnecting and reconnecting.

Don't think pistons are exactly required, as I would reset it before I built Gloria by hitting the button to send another pulse, and noticed that the power moving through the next row of repeaters would send the original power moving again; I'm not entirely sure why. However, I like pistons, and they made the wiring a little less "great, now how do I keep the reboot circuit from connecting to the main circuit without even more monkeywiring?"

tl;dr(i just woke up, tend to ramble): Keeps the power moving even after I /warp or disconnect. Pistons are mostly a matter of style and convenience.

Ah I did notice that problem as well. I like the solution.

I'll keep that in mind next wireless redstone circuit i set up.

One issue with the reboot circuit is that it causes some lag if you're using as many pistons as I did for Gloria - so I set up a shutoff that cuts off the signal for when the lag is causing issues. 'course, it is a hundred and fifty pistons, so that's not really surprising.

you could probably do manual reboot of sorts, have 3 buttons that do 50 each or something to cut down on it, especially if there is only one or two on at once, it should work in theory.

The problem with having a manual reboot is that the point of the reboot circuit is to make sure Gloria keeps the time without me needing to manually reboot and/or reset her. I'm thinking of trying something involving replacing most of the wire of the reboot circuit with repeaters, but that'd probably end up freezing, too, so I'll just stick to Gloria and her huge reboot circuit. Won't be much of a problem when I get my other computer running again, at least. ... well, not for me, probably.

I realized I could use an autoscroller to count, which made me realize how to make Gloria smaller. As the resulting construction was no longer really Gloria, I called it Sylvia. Then I got an idea to make Sylvia look nicer. Then to make her more compact. That's why this, here, is Sylvia v3.

Scroller-side

Button-side (you can see the reboot core on top, too, I think, just a little)

From the catwalk near where I pieced together how to make a locking door that acts like a damn door

I intend to use her, and a few other autoscrollers to increase time counted (as up to twelve blocks can be pushed by any one piston, I can have a single autoscroller set up to count to forty-eight, using four pistons all pushing twelve block sets, with a single glass block) without sacrificing precision - what's the use in counting hours if you can't make a set of minecarts move from station to station every minute? (I've also designed a rudimentary, probably clunky, train station design, come to think of it. Need to find a better way to get the carts moving than "have them on a slope with a powered rail under them, that turns on when you hit a nearby button.") If/when I finally decide to make a fortress inspired by Sigil, I'll have every single scroller activate a different set of pistons.

That actually is a great idea. I may look into a plugin I saw a while ago that makes minecarts load chunks even if empty and see if I can't make me a automated train system.

Ah, that'd be a good idea. Maybe I'll ask Rob about that once these permissions issues get straightened out (though at this rate it seems like the plugins need to be wiped and reinstalled)

If he's having a lot of trouble with it I can help him sort it out one of these days. I've used damn near every permissions plugin they've come out with for my server...

I'd suggest switching to Permissions EX if he hasn't already and he's having issues. Its by far the best one I've found yet.

I'll suggest it to him next time he's on. These permissions issues are really being a pain in the ass - pretty sure the lag the server's had since the issues started is related to the issues.

Been playing the Aether mod the last few days, it's pretty damn neat. Just found a double-dungeon.

You build a portal out of glowstone to get up there, and, as with the nether, it builds an exit portal in the realm. My first trip tossed me right into the middle of a Silver dungeon. It was kind of unnerving, and I was not prepared at all. You can see two of the natives--valkyries--standing by the gate. They will fuck you up.

He's a normal Bronze dungeon entrance, for comparison.

I just thought it was pretty. Bv A moa's hanging out on the right side.

The entrance to the double-dungeon. "Wow, this should be interesting." Wasn't disappointed.

The Bronze boss, a slider, sitting asleep on its pedestal. The entire room has been cleaved apart by the tunnel of the second dungeon. At this point I have a question come into mind, and an opportunity to do something unusual.

In this similar shot I turn the view distance to far so you can see the second slider back in its own room.

So I psyche myself up by eating some reese's cups and scratching my underarm, and then I attack the first boss. Now, as you may or may not know, dungeon room doorways seal as soon as you attack the bosses. But would it generate the necessary room walls to lock me and the awful cube inside?

No.

I lured the cursed bastard back out through the tunnel for an epic surface fight. I discovered this was really hard because the entrance was like, basically the side of a cliff, and the thing is sliding around after my ass. After some dangerous dodging around, gunfire and yelling dramatic things like "you son of a bitch!", I led it back inside. Did smash the place up while it was out, though.

The tunnel also cut through the treasure area, as you could see in an earlier picture, and in doing so it removed the chest, so no treasure for me. Not in that room, anyway.

A final shot here, from the room of the second slider, back down to the exit. I had already felled the first; it didn't occur to me at the time that I might lead it into the second room and then attack the second one to awaken it too, thereby entering deep shit mode.

I'd welcome any help you can provide Vivi. Unfortunately with the hosting service I use, I can't freely upload a plugin, and have to pick from those they provide. Also, lacking direct FTP access to the server.

Ah right I forgot you're using a hosting service. Well I can try to help anyways, like I've said I've used quite a few different permissions plugins so...hopefully. Do you know which permissions system you're using right now?

As you all doubtless know, 1.8 is finally officially released. I like the terrain generation a lot more. I've been playing a vanilla no-mods game.

I found some pumpkins and decided to make a lantern to see the texture I'd made in action (which sucks, incidentally.) Decided to look for some water. Oh, there's some right beside me.

Looks oddly deep too. Cool new feature. Deeper water+++ Dive in.

I put the lantern down, seen at the bottom, then actually look around. The fuck is that?

Oh, it's only an entire cave system and cavern, leading out from a waterfall in that pool I'd found.

Seen here from inside.

Traveling in a bit, there's another such exit/entrance, to a similar pool.

There's actually another one too, for three pool-falls I know of.

A larger, open room in one of the many tunnels.

I call this The Shaft. it disturbs me, for how even and uniform is it. I mean it even looks like there's a damn doorway down there. I still haven't explored it.

Wow.

The seed and coords, if anyone wants to check it out.

You might have stumbled across an Abandoned Mine Shaft, actually. There's supposed to be some of those.
