The Pitch
So, nobody actually replied to my last thread, and the advertisement board actually seemed sorta' dead, but I figrue I'll give this another shot now that I have members and an actual setting set in stone!
See, I'm trying to recruit as many of the actually good roleplayers (read: not the boring high-school-drama people, or the cybersex crowd) for a large-scale, long-running group roleplay on TK and/or MSN. It's 3-6 lines to a post, generally (to keep wait time down), and will feature a blend of action and character interaction.
All are welcome, provided you're a decent roleplayer and don't mind the criteria.
The Setting
In a far-flung future where humanity has spread across the stars, most of mankind has been loosely united under the banner of one starfaring "democratic" empire. In reality, Old Earth's President holds an overriding veto, and has been carrying on the proud tradition of using it to silence opposition and impose a harsh totalitarian police state, for the alleged purposes of rooting out and destroying a dangerous rebel cell and protecting humanity against alien incursions.
On the edge of the human-settled region of existence lies The Frontier. Here, the presence of a few powerful alien civilizations ahs stopped human expansion in its tracks... Officially, anyway. Humanity always finds a way to persevere and thus, among the myriad xenomorphs on the edge of the known universe, there are also human settlers- the hardiest of them, but also the poorest and most desperate. The Frontier is a haven for criminals and outcasts, freaks and weirdoes, mercenaries, mobsters, and madmen.
It is also home to religion and mysticism. Human "believers", long since banned their practices in the human commonwealth, perform their rituals and worship their gods in secret or out in the open on The Frontier, dependant primarily upon how well they can defend themselves against raids from their "legitimate government". Of course, they have one little secret up their sleeves, to protect them from the trials of this harsh territory... One the authorities would rather people not know about...
The gods.
Yes, gods, and demons, and demigods, and monsters. They exist, fuelled by a spiritual force neither matter not energy. The alien empires know of them, and of their power- it's how they’ve held humanity at bay so long, funnelling their belief and tribute into their powerful idols. The myths of mankind are not so fortunate- relatively few believe in them and, as the government destroyed and covered them over the millennia, even their believers are all too well aware how vulnerable their supernatural beings truly are. They are now forced to hide from the mighty alien gods and the government's well-equipped black ops, deep in their worshipper's catacombs and bunkers or among the general populace in human guise.
Despite all efforts to halt them, however, the human commonwealth continues to creep forward, bringing with it assimilation or destruction for all those outside its own race or culture.
