I am not writing this message to say, "Stop your advertising!" to all my fellow RPers. On the contrary, I support any method that people use to recruit more members.

No, there is something bad in one or two of the odd advertisements that aren't for the Roleplay, and are more just... commercial advertisements.

On multiple cases, these ad's have attempted to send me a virus that my firewall managed to stop and alerted me for. In another case, whatever the virus was broke through my firewall, uninstalled my Virus Protection Program, and pretended be its own virus scanner and refused to allow me to figure out how to fix my own computer and locked me out from reasserting my PC manually. I had to go into System Restore, Safemode, and then go to Windows Live Onecare Safety Scanner to do a full system cleaning. The end result was me redownloading my virus protection software and trying to figure out how to boost my security via Internet Options.

I wish to bring this to the Moderator's and the Admin's attention.

Why? Because although I managed to act swiftly and take care of it from my own computer, it will happen again both to me and to others. And if there is a younger RPer who doesn't know exactly what he or she is doing on a computer, well, the end result there is most likely the Blue Screen of Death.

Most people would say, "Well then your virus scanner sucks." Allow me to assure you, it doesn't. If it could get through my defenses, it will do worse to others. And I am sure it has.

I know that the advertisements help to fuel the website and pay for expenditure, but some of those ads need to be addressed.
I don't know how this issue can be resolved, and I am sure it has pained people who had no idea where the virus came from. I was just lucky that my firewall (when it worked) alerted me of exactly where the threat was attacking from.

Oh and before the big attack that nearly crippled my computer, my virus scan managed to alert me just before it was screwed over. Two things popped up. Worm and Trojan. That was when everything went to hell.

Just a warning I wanted to alert the head honchos of.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps my fellow RP chatters as well. Scan your computer if you havent done so recently just for good measure.

They know. THey're called spambots.
Rather than post this, the best thing to do is to bring the threads to the attention of the FORUM moderators, because they're the ONLY ones with the power to remove threads on the forums. Even then however, something has broken and they are unable to actually properly fix the problem at the moment.

It IS however being looked into.

If you wish to report a spam thread, the best thing to do is open the thread, and click "REPORT TO MODERATOR" at the bottom right of the post, state your reason ("Spam" being acceptable reason to delete a post or thread), and click submit, then post on the thread "Reported for Spam".

Hope this helps, but just to clarify, tK's admins and moderators have no power over the forums at all. The two are seperate entities.

Problem's fixed. Spam's been nuked.

I'm an Ombudsman. I investigate; I only very rarely legislate (and only in a committee, no man is an island and all that).

These ad's are the ones hovering over the chat when you are actually chatting, not in the forum threads. Sorry if i didn't make that clear.

At the top of the chat window? Yep. Those adverts are drawn from THIS very forum. If you hadn't noticed, even THIS thread turned up in the banner window at the top of the chat.
