Fine yes Typo on canon, I'd like to think despite that, what I said still counts -_-...

Though is someone really did play a literal Cannon...That'd be different to say the least.

oh absolutely. I just giggle every time someone says "cannon characters", especially when they don't realise they're spelling it wrong. Because I imagine the character they're actually speaking of with a cannon for a head.

A lot of the complaints I see about canon characters is that they supposedly lack effort on the part of the player, which apparently is supposed to set them apart from custom made characters. I disagree with this assertion: Never minding my hypothesis that the majority of customs are based on the template of a canon anyway, I find that a custom gives a player more potential to have wild and seemingly out of character mood swings, usually adhering to the current OOC status of the player themselves. Canons are not so much so - if you are wrecking a canon, a lot of people will see and know it.

I have seen plenty of canon fuck-ups; but I have also seen many customs who were cheap particle board with a picture painted on it.

RPing in TK for the most part means that you are willingly thrusting your character into a paradoxical multiverse where an unfathomable number of parallel and perpendicular time-space continuums overlap and intertwine in an infinite orgy of mind-blowing proportions. It should be expected that you will come into contact with beings from across all existence - which might include canons.

I have had Jason for so long that I forget what that characters' base was, if he had one. Maybe Trent from Twilight of the Clans. He was a generic Battletech clanner. My Diothe character is a better example; He's Roman Link. fights with a short sword, large shield, and has a sling shot complete with a suit of lorica hamata.

I've heard Captain Picard be compared with my character before, and that makes me feel good about myself. But no, Jason is not that charismatic and level-headed.

Fen is kinda like Wolverine mixed with Kenpachi Zaraki mixed with Dante I guess in terms of persona but also kinda like King Bradley in his style.

The thing about some canon characters, especially those from shared universes or that are just old as hell (Sherlock Holmes, for example) are that they have been written, presented and interpreted in a million different ways. Just because dudes basing their take on, say, Batman entirely on the Nolan movies makes me all mad doesn't make those dudes wrong. It's hard to say that's wrong when Batman has been a cowboy, a pirate, a robot, and so on.

I think the concept of Hypertime from older DC Comics helps here. It's all true, and every version of a character is equally valid. The Goku before you with a pink afro who is a wizard isn't a canon violation, he's from a different dimension/reality/it's Ultimate Goku.

People like canon characters, so they have fun playing them. That's cool. As long as people are having fun and not hurting anybody I'll support them. But then again, when I see a room full of original characters and you see a canon character in there, I always feel like they don't belong. I feel like they should mingling with their own kind. I guess I'm racist.
