Title: Moderators
Post by: EbonyBlackthorn on August 08, 2018, 12:35:23 AM
Do we still have mods in the keep? I see a lot of things going on that are against the rules. If we dont have mods Souldnt we bring them back, I am a long time member of the keep and will volunteer to be a mod. my character name is Ebony-Blackthorn

We have admins out there some where. I don't know about mods. But maybe I've not been looking hard enough to find those.

We should probably expand the staff, though. With all due respect, you're one guy and you're not always on, but there's an endless supply of people who think that sexual harassment is the right way to open a conversation. Gotta have someone around to whack the moles.

(Before someone brings up /ignore: It works poorly at best, and doesn't stop people who literally open with obscene messages.)

Also doesn't stop people from just registering a new throwaway name account to do it again with absolutely no way to stop it :/ Completely unsurprised there are people on this site who have issues with consent tho.

I'm not a mod, haven't been one for over a decade now I think, and I would not only make a bad mod (I don't have the attention span, energy or right kind of disposition for it), but I'd barely be around enough to be effective even if I wasn't a bad mod, but I think possibly the backend is still kinda... fubar at the moment. Moderating the site is still kind of a massive hack job and a tangled mess of work-arounds.

I don't know the moderation back-end, so I don't know whether IP addresses are recorded so that an actual C&D letter can be sent (if we can catch their actual IP address on the first entrance) - but the weakness of the defenses is a continuing problem, and the only realistic solution (because a code-based solution is not in the cards) is to have more mods capable of whack-a-mole.

We can add more moderators.

Would you like to do that, Moon?

I don't know the moderation back-end...

It somehow had not struck me that there even was such a thing but I think it has made me realize that I've never tried to think about it.  What a strange and magical thing it might be.

Vote 1337 for mod today. *Kisses a baby.*

I volunteer as tribute!

But no, seriously, I've been waiting to put my name in the hat for moderator-ship for the past, goodness, 10 years. When Vivi (and Robo, and Palehorse/Ed) were originally promoted to MainHall mods, I hesitated - people laughed at the thought of a "girl as a mod." I'm still here though.

Some points to think on:
I've been part of the Keep community since 2001.
I have been a known and regular OOC-entity since 2008.
I have never been banned.
While drama can touch all of us at some point, I stay out of it generally.
I am still a well-known OOC-entity. Enough that people have asked me (Me!?) questions in regards to finding mods, AUP issues, etc.
I know the AUP. I know it's posted, but I also follow it!
I'm not scared of the more vocal degenerates out there. (AKA I don't have any craps left for people to make me cry and leave).
I have already approached Irra, Vivi, and Web about this possibility. :)

Make Kiko a Moderator: 2019!

What's the status on this request? Has Moon replied to you?

I haven't seen him Keepside in weeks, though I might have missed him.

Is there any update on this?

Some active staff would be great; a new fresh outlook on a new year in the Keep. :)

I agree, some new staff might be nice, also might help when there are so many that aren't really around anymore. Hopefully even start getting new players to keep the site alive since there is only 18-30ish usually at any given time. Fifty, if we're lucky.

I'd even be willing to help having been around on tk for a good amount of time if it was needed.

Best.

I too would be more than happy to be a moderator for the chat.

While I haven't been around as long as some of the others, I am a regular in chat and I know how to follow the rules. I mod for a couple of other online communities and when it's my job to be, I am responsible and unbiased in enforcing the rules. I'm also in the GMT timezone, so can often help with more varied mod coverage!

My vote goes for Kiko, if that hat needs names in it. I'm sure I could drag out reasons for why and why not others...
But what's left on TK to moderate? The site's mostly just OOC banter and a few closed-RP rooms (which, in my apparent experience, end up with more OOC than IC anyway).

Maybe just making a list of suspects and their infractions would be sufficient. It's not that I think staff are totally unneeded or that Kiko isn't up to the task, but that maybe the whole mess can be avoided with a more simple gesture.
I have no doubts that some people could probably roll call most of TK's actually-active playerbase, and to me that just begs the question of why this hasn't turned into a game of Clue yet. Or maybe this is the game of Clue, I don't know.
Mods/admins have the power to see usernames and to whom they belong, so... figure out who's behind infractions, and then... maybe the solution here is easy said and easy done?

All that bitter out of the way, a constant watchful eye to say 'Hey... we are still watching' will cut down on baddies. I'm not really super up to date on TK, is there a particularly bad rash of perverts going around? Has someone's/some peoples' ban(s) lapsed? That seems likely to me, maybe this just calls for a bit of homework between players and staff to zero in on trouble cases.

There's multiple individuals who evade ignores and bans to commit harassment, as well as who send creepy messages to women as their opening whispers. That does require moderators to deal with.

I am hereby throwing my vote in for ABSOLUTELY NOT ME as a moderator.
Anybody but me gets my vote!

almost

I mean obviously not some complete  dipshit who would be even worse than me at moderating but absolutely not me in any event. Even if I was the last user on the Keep.
